SSUSA Softball Bat Certification
SSUSA Softball Bat Certification
The SSUSA Softball bat certification is for bats in 40 and over softball leagues. You need to check with you league. Just because your league is for players forty and over does not mean that you need to use a bat with Senior Softball certification. Many leagues allow bats that are certified by multiple organizations. The Senior Softball USA certification has a few requirements for a bat to receive their approval. They are:
- Each model and weight must be submitted to Dr. Richard Brandt at New York University. Dr. Brandt then tests the bat to verify that it meets the 1.21 bpf standard. Dr. Brandt sends his results directly to SSUSA. The bats must also meet other standards that are in the Senior Softball rulebook. One example is the length.
- After receiving approval, the bat manufacturers then pay a minimum licensing fee each year.
- Senior Softball USA also requires manufacturers to name Senior Softball USA as additionally insured on the company's liability policy. There must be at least a $10 million liability insurance policy in case of injury.
- Once they reach an agreement, a bat will be added to the SSUSA Softball bat certification list once they receive a copy of the insurance coverage. Then the bat is legal in all of their tournaments.
