2019 Youth Baseball Bats: The New USA Baseball Standard

2019 Youth Baseball Bats: The New USA Baseball Standard

2019 Youth Baseball Bats are completely different than youth baseball bats in the past. This is because of the new USA baseball standard that youth leagues have to follow everywhere. No longer can players use 2 1/4 inch barrel bats that have composite in the barrel. Players will have access to big barrel baseball bats now. This is because the standard allows for bats with a 2 5/8" barrel, so players are getting more surface area on their bats, but are not getting the trampoline effect of composite bats. This may have come as a shock to some. But, the new standard is to attempt to improve the safety of the game. They want youth bats to be able to feel more like wood bats, so young kids don't have to make a switch when they are younger. Parents may not have been the happiest about the switch to the new standard because they have to buy a new bat for their kid. But, they are happy that the game is now becoming safer than it was in years prior. The leagues that are using this new standard are Little League, Babe Ruth, Cal Ripken, PONY, Dixie, and AABC. USSSA baseball is still one of the few leagues that is keeping the 1.15BPF standard. If you are not sure about what standard your league has, ask a coach or administrator on what bat you need.
